Zachary Taylor became President in 1849 and had never previously voted for a President.

Three Presidents died on July 4th: James Monroe, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The only President born on the 4th of July was Calvin Coolidge.

John Kennedy also had quite a few firsts and other American President fun facts attributed to his name. He was 43 when elected and this continues to be the youngest for a President. When assassinated, he was 46, which also makes him the youngest President to die. He is also the first President to win a Pulitzer Prize and also serve in the Navy.

John F. Kennedy and Howard Taft are buried in Arlington National Cemetery and are the only Presidents that are.

James Monroe had quite a few first associated with him. He was the first Senator to be elected President and had the first inaugural outdoors. Also, his daughter nuptials took place in the White House, which was a first.

James Buchanan never married. Instead, his niece was the host to the White House.

James A. Garfield could write with both hands very well and even in many languages.

It took seven Presidents before one was born an American Citizen. That was Martin Van Buren.

In actuality, even though Barack Obama is the United State's 44th President, only 43 Presidents are counted. The reason is that Grover Cleveland was counted twice because he became our 22nd and the 24th President. Because his two terms were not consecutive his is considered two times when listed.Thomas Jefferson became the very first President to shake hands with visitors to the White House. Before that, with John Adams and George Washington, dignitaries and emissaries bowed to the President.

In 1972, China was not officially recognized by the United States. Richard Nixon created a first when he was the first President to visit a country unrecognized by the U.S. government.

Herber Hoover learned Chinese and taught his wife the language so he could tell stories to her. He wanted to keep things private.

Grover Cleveland is the only President to serve two terms that were not consecutive: 1885-1889 and then 1893-1897. Franklin D. Roosevelt is the only President to serve more than two term.

Gerald Ford, Speaker of the House, was not elected by the people to become President. This was a first after Nixon resigned. (Nixon’s Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned under the shadow of criminal charges – a Vice Presidential first.)
